こんにちは、Halfappleです。
台風も去って、秋晴れになってますね。
今回、10/17のクラスは、Muddy先生の担当でした。
Appearanceという話題で、会話しました。
Muddy 先生: for example keeping a nice and tidy appearance is good for keeping a job
Muddy 先生: yes - an employers will judge you based on your appearance for what they think you are capable or not capable of
「例えば、素敵できちんとした外見は、職を確保するのに役に立ちます。そう、雇用者はあなたの外見に基づいて、あなたに能力があるかないかを判定します。」
tidy/táɪdi/形容詞tidier; tidiest｟主に英｠

Muddy 先生: yes - for example the fashion industry seems to focus a lot on very thin models - it can make some people worry about their body fat so much they will try a number of unhealthy types of diets to try and be super-thin
「そう、例えばファッション産業はとても痩せたモデルたちに注意を集中しています。それはある種の人々に彼（女）らの体が太りすぎていないか心配させます。それで彼らはいくつかの不健康なダイエッティングを試して、超細身になろうとします。」

Muddy 先生: I think a number of people do similar things in SL - they make their avatars be tall and/or thin to be the desired style of body that they want to be in RL
「いくつかの人々はSLでも同じようなことをしていると思います。彼らはアバターをRLでそうありたいと願うように、背が高くて、細身にしています。」
SLでのアバターはRLでの劣等感の裏返し？と考えるとちょっと変な気分がしますね。

Muddy 先生: I can understand it's use for someone with damaged appearances - but most facelifts I think end up looking more ugly than what the person originally looked like
「私は外見が損傷を受けた人々に用いられるのは分かります。でもほとんどの（整形）手技は、その人がもともと見せていたよりも醜くさせることに終わっているように思います。」

SLでの外見について、みんな同じような顔や服装をしていることない？ということで、
Muddy 先生: but even with the uniform-like appearances - a lot of people do different variations to stand out
「でも画一的な外見にもかかわらず、多くの人々は目立つために違った変化をつけています。」

ところで、uniformって、名詞と形容詞が同じ形なのは要注意かな？
変わったアバターを使っている人の話題になって、
Muddy 先生: I found it amusing that some avatars chose to be non-living objects
Muddy 先生: one avatar was a lamp shade
「あるアバターは非生物の物になることを選んでいるのは楽しいと感じました。あるアバターはランプ笠でした。」
Muddy 先生: it was funny because if they did not walk about you would mistake them for part of the furniture
Muddy 先生: it seems most of us want to stay familiar and remain as some kind of human form for our SL avatars
「もし彼らがあなたの周りを歩き回らなければ、あなたは彼らを家具の一部だと勘違いするでしょう。私たちの多くは、SLのアバターとして、親しみのある人間型の姿でありたいと思っているようです。」
Muddy先生は猫（ネコ科の動物）が好きで、また、白黒の豹柄の模様も好きなんだそうです。これはアバターに一貫して反映してますね。
